Sometimes at APS, we are excited to brag a little about how great our students are doing. This is especially the case with our A.S.T.R.O. Vikings (6682) STEM team and the Thunderdogs (5613) STEM team as they compete  in the FIRST Robotics District competitions.

Both teams garnered awards at the FIRST In Texas (FIT) El Paso District event held March 1—3, 2019 at Memorial Gymnasium at the University of Texas—El Paso.

The A.S.T.R.O. Vikings team  was awarded the Imagery Award

in honor of Jack Kamen (the father of FIRST Founder Dean Kamen).  The award celebrates attractiveness in engineering and outstanding visual aesthetic integration of machine and team appearance.  The team is comprised of  students from Alamogordo High School and area Homeschoolers.

The Thunder Dogs team was awarded the Innovation in Control Award, sponsored by Rockwell Automation. This award celebrates an innovative control system or application of control components —electrical, mechanical, or software—to provide unique machine functions. This team is comprised of students from Alamogordo High School, Cloudcroft High School, Imago Dei Academy and area Homeschoolers.

The Thunder Dogs will also compete in the FIRST Robotics District Amarillo event to be held March 8—10, 2017 at John Jay High School in Amarillo, TX.
