Hallbeck Recognized as 2019 NM-NEA's
Award for Teaching Excellence Recipient

   The National Education Association of New Mexico (NM-NEA) has selected Melanie Hallbeck, as New Mexico’s 2019 recipient of the Award for Teaching Excellence!

   The award is based on peer nomination with both Melanie Hallbeck Teaching Classlocal and regional review before being considered for the state award. The NEA-NM Board of Directors was impressed with Hallbeck’s accomplishments as an outstanding educator in naming her as the state recipient for this award. They noted Hallbeck’s ability to challenge students to meet high expectations and her genuine concern for the welfare of each of her students as mentioned in her nomination packet which impressed the NM-NEA Board.

   This award also makes Hallbeck the NEA-NM’s nominee for the national 2020 National NEA Foundation California Casualty Award for Teaching Excellence. As the NEA-NM’s nominee, she will be invited to attend an expense paid trip (thanks to the NEA-NM and the NEA Foundation) to the NEA Foundation Gala on Friday, February 7, 2020 in Washington, DC. This special evening will honor all state nominees.

   Her selection as the state nominee also comes with a $1000 cash award from NEA-NM.  An award check will be presented to Hallbeck at the Annual Delegate Council to be held in Albuquerque on October 26, 2019.

   “You are truly an example of a great teacher and a leader,” said Betty Patterson, President of NEA-NM in Hallbeck’s award letter. “Thank you for all you do to make a difference in the lives of your students!”

   Hallbeck teaches at Academy Del Sol.
