Sunset Hills Elementary School is currently under construction to replace both Heights and Oregon Elementary Schools.
Due to delays in the shipments of structural steel, weather delays, and other logistical concerns, the project has fallen behind schedule.  Recently, APS Administration has received written confirmation from GenCon Construction, the contractor who is building Sunset Hills ES, that it will not be possible to occupy the new building in time for the beginning of next school year in August.

To expedite our construction schedule and as a contingency for the unanticipated schedule delays, it will be necessary for all Oregon and Heights students and staff to prepare to begin the 2019-2020 school year at Oregon Elementary.  Sufficient space has been identified at the Oregon ES location for students who are currently enrolled at both Heights and Oregon, or who live in the current attendance zones for these schools.

It is anticipated that the construction of Sunset Hills Elementary, including the building, playgrounds, parking areas, and landscaping will be fully completed by the end of October, 2019.  As soon as the specific date of a Certificate of Occupancy by the State’s Building Inspector and Fire Marshal’s Office is known, a decision will be made regarding when students and staff will transition from Oregon Elementary to this new facility.

If you should have any questions regarding the construction of Sunset Hills Elementary, please direct them to Justin Burks, Chief of Capital Outlay and Facilities at 575-812-6015 or Justin.Burks@aps4kids.org.
