AHS Takes Third in New Mexico

    On Saturday, January 26th Alamogordo High School was represented for the first time in the New Mexico Scholastic Press Association State Competition, brining hope third place.

    The competition had 22 different categories. Points were awarded for first, second, and third in each category.

    "It is a lot like a track meet, you need a lot of participants in as many categories as possible to win," said AHS Teacher and Yearbook Adviser Scotty Williams.

   Awards ListingHost Centennial High School had approximately 40 participants. They placed first with 84 points. Eldorado High School scored 27 points to place second. Alamogordo High School placed third, despite only competing in three of the 22 categories. The Tigers finished with 18 total points.

    "We did quite well in the three categories we participated in," Williams said.

    Abygale Hill took third in poetry and Trinity Johnson took first. In the double page layout yearbook category, Elizabeth Dennett placed second. AHS students won all three places in the short story category. Chance Houston took third, Felisha Arellano was second and Alexander Egan was first.

    "We would also like to thank Donald Clocksin and Patrick Tedford for their assistance with transportation and Jane Halonen for serving as driver and chaperone," Williams said.

    The following 14 AHS students participated in the competition: Felisha Arellano, Alexander Egan, Abygale Hill, Sandi Palmer, Brianna Nollette, Kayla Wood, Marisol Rodriguez, Hope Ensminger, Chance Houston, Daniel Cervantes, Jack Bennett, Trinity Johnson, Elizabeth Dennett and Alissa Sambrano.
